Is the desire for meat simply and innate and unalterable aspect of humankind's biological nature?
The answer is `NO' . If one does a comparative anatomical and behavioral study of the carnivores and the herbivores. It becomes clear that
We do not have long cannies as that of carnivores, required for the tearing of flesh.
The intestine/ body ratio of herbivores including human beings is 3 to 4 times that of carnivores. Because of this delayed passage of the food, the flesh eaters sooner or later suffer from constipation and allied disorders; thus they become prone for rectal and intestinal disorders and carcinomas. And meat protein as such delays the gastric emptying time. On the contrary carnivores in whom the intestinal length is short, the flesh that is taken is easily dumped out.
If we observe the behavioural patterns of flesh eating and vegetable eating animals, it is quite obvious that the carnivores like cat, dog, lion, tiger, wolf etc. have aggression as their habitual nature and even a small stimulus is sufficient to provoke an attitude of aggression in them. That's why we never call a tiger or a wolf a "paragon of peace"; instead , we call the cow, horse and the other herbivores like elephant, camel etc., as "paragons of peace".

"in terms of calorie units per acre, a diet of grains, vegetables and beans will support twenty times more people than a diet of meat. As it stands now, about half the harvested acreage in America is used to feed animals. If earth's arable land were used to feed animals. If earth's arable land were used to primarily for the production of vegetarian foods, the planet could easily support a human population of twenty billion or more"
